One of the most important specifications in a computer system is memory. You might have heard a lot of people talking about what’s the memory in terms of GB size. But not everyone is clearly familiar with function of computer memory and how it affects entire operations of a PC. People often confuse memory with HDD space or processor but no, it’s a different thing altogether and cannot be replaced with any other component. Memory is an integral as well as very crucial part of a computer. Knowing the exact functions and types of memory proves really helpful while you go shopping for your brand new system.
The basic thing about computer memory is that, it is limited in size and has a certain space that can be used to store the documents and other files. Some people use terms like scratchpad or short-term memory to describe the function of computer memory. The computer memory can be erased and rewritten as well. The memory is really instrumental in allowing system to start a new operation whereas other operations are underway. It also helps in keeping each task separate from other. This way, the individual performance of each task can be maintained and no two operations are able to interfere with each other.
Speed of each computer operation is determined by computer memory. More computer memory helps in speeding up all the operations and one will not have to wait for countless hours while dabbling in different applications. Every program that has been opened takes a certain part of computer memory. This proves very crucial during loading of graphic software that takes huge space. Now a day, most of the computer system or laptops are coming up with 2-4 GB RAM (Random Access Memory). One can also increase or upgrade the memory if needed.
